Why should i start a personal blog?

why should i run a personal blog

Did you just finish school and are now looking for a job?

Did you just finish that training on a particular skill and you are ready to start taking orders?

Or are you just looking to improve your life, personally and professionally? You want to learn a skill? You want to switch careers?

Did you just launch that business idea turned perfect product or service into the market and are ready for customers to swarm in?

If any of this is you, I have one question for you if you do not run a personal blog in 2019.

Where have you been all these while? What have you been doing? Why have you not been talking or documenting your journey from the very first adult stage of your life? And by that I mean, from high school if possible, or college at most.

A friend from the streets of twitter once said; attend school, get what it offers, but develop yourself more into what you desire to be. – Uchechukwu A.

How do you develop yourself more into what you desire to be? This is one thing I always wanted to achieve while I was growing up. I achieved this at age 26 i think. How did i do it?

By blogging. Not just any type of blogging though, ‘personal blogging’.

If you have read any of my stories on why I started blogging, you would know this.

Personal blogging allows you to document your knowledge and journey in stories you share with the world. By so doing, you are leaving digital footprints of who you are and where you are coming from. This footprint can and will be traced back to you, in many years to come.

The world will see where you are coming from, how far you have come, and where you are headed. They can relate to that, they know your story and your experiences because you shared them as learning nuggets. That is how you earn trust, loyalty and repeated customers in the digital space and offline. That is why blogs became popular and almost every organisation has one today.

Customers are no longer satisfied with products or services being shoved down their face. They want to know why they should patronise you, your product or service. They want to know if you have a good track record and can deliver. In a way, your personal blog can be the work experience you tender to that company to show that you know your onions (that is, knowledgeable about something).

You don’t get a share of the marketplace by diving right into it with your perfect product or service and bombarding people with adverts and messages on how awesome the solution you are selling is. Okay maybe sometimes some people do.

You however can claim a seat at the marketplace table because you blogged.

A classic reason why I decided to write this post is this. Every time I walk into a store, 50% of the time, I am amazed at how knowledgeable the sales girl or boy is when telling me about the products or services they offer. The last time this happened, it was an inverter store. For thirty minutes, I listened to how to use an inverter, what type of solar boards there were, what load to allow your inverter carry and what not.

I had to ask her if she had a personal blog. The answer I get to this question is almost the same all the time. They tell me they are just passing time by working there for a while and may leave soon, or how it isn’t their dream job or career path.

This is what I tell them. The fact that you are here and you know all these things, will make you who you become tomorrow. Your attitude to this job is astonishing and you are not going to make an impact with all that knowledge about your current line of work if you keep it within your thoughts and let it die when you move on. Someone, somewhere out there needs this knowledge, SHARE IT. That knowledge might be what catapults you to the next phase of your life because you documented it in your story.

Do you know that writing your stories can teach you to be a great writer and help you become an effective communicator. Writing here on my blog boosted my self esteem, with time i got used to expressing myself and my feelings. I did not know how to do that before blogging.

There’s a technique for how I share stories on my personal blog here. I look at my endgame, which is ’empowering someone out there who may be going through what I have gone through before, with what I know now and how it helped me’. By so doing, you know where I am coming from, where I am right now, and where I am headed. That has to count for consistency right? Don’t you think so?

Roy T. Bennet once said, “Consistency is the true foundation of trust. Either keep your promises or do not make them.”

And no, it does not have to be perfect when you start, a simple free WordPress.com blog would suffice. Don’t believe me? Type in maryjob.WordPress.com into your browser and see where it takes you to.

Got a personal blog? Share your link in the comments section, I would be delighted to read your stories.

    1. Hi hi Enerie, happy to e-meet you. I’m happy you were inspired.

The key in personal blogging is for others to learn and draw from your experiences. It’s for others to be able to relate with you being human. And most importantly, it’s for you to discover yourself. There’s no straight cut way to begin or style to follow.

Just be yourself, the more you write, the better you get and the more confidence you build within yourself. Write any story, thought, or feeling that comes to mind. It could be anything or nothing. Hope that helps.
